One of the band mommies or daddies must know someone at the Chronicle. Thats obvious. Its funny how the chronicle pays little to no attention to all the other bands that have been busting their balls for years and recording amazing cd's and these kids get a whole page before they even do a show? I heard theyre pretty good and thats awesome and hell I am not knocking them for getting the good exposure but I am just saying there are a tonne more bands in tbay that deserve the exposure a lot more.

if you want exposure tyler...u gotta put the time into it. i know the reason why they got all this exposure is becuz they busted there asses off to put together a great press kit and droped it off to the chronicle and some radio stations. i say the deserve every little part of promotion there getting. im sure if more bands in tbay did the same by makin a good press kit and dropped it off everywhere they would get the same. and also there music is more appealing to all ages, rather then a metal band only being appealing to metal fans.

I got'sta agree with Jay on this one.  There are so many funding opportunities, project councilling services, and tips on band promotion out there these days that hardly anyone takes advantage of.  Well, anyone locally I mean.

Once I'm 100% certain our band will continue past the summer I plan to go crazy with this stuff.  I hope to have 50% of all our future recording, mixing/mastering, promotion, touring, etc. funded by Factor because that's what the money is there for.

I really suggest people visit http://www.thinknorth.ca and MFM in general.  They're an invaluable organisation to any indie artist/band in northern Ontario, regardless of your genre.

Hey Jay, sorry but every music has its market.

Any bunch of highschool guys can start an alternative radio rock band and have a tonne of fans. Thats easy. Getting noticed in a radio rock band is safe and easy.

And dont tell me that it takes a lot to make a press kit. I know all about press kits. I made a very professional press kit for Grynd back in the day, we had a CD and on top of that we played many high profile shows over the years and the chronicle rep that I spoke to told me "sorry but the public isnt really interested in local talent". He said this to me even after we had a little spotlight on 94FM.

And you know what? Hes VERY right. I would say that 90% of this town couldnt give a rats ass flying fuck about local bands and artists. Hell 60% of that 90% probably dont even know there are bands in Thunder Bay. They probably think local bands are all little kids making noise in their basement or something. The only local talent that the majority of this town gives a shit about are the cover bands.

No matter what the genre, metal, radio rock, whatever. Unless its a big radio band or a band in the mainstream people will not go to the show. Even local bands playing in radio friendly genres cant get noticed in this town. Its sad.

Good for Harbour press for getting in the paper. But dont tell me that it was only because of a press kit. Anyone can make a press kit. I could make a detailed press kit about Jay Gatto with a little time, its not hard. Like I said good for them that they got in the chronicle but there was likely some parental or family influence in the matter. I know many bands that have tried getting the chronicle to help promote their band, cd release, whatever and to no avail. The last local band I saw featured in the paper was the band Julian when I was about 16 years old. Let hope that Harbour Press did it all on their own whether they did or not it doesnt matter but I can only hope that either way it helps open that door for more local bands to be featured in the Chronicle.

ur right, it doesnt take alot of work to put together a press kit. anyone can do it, some can do it better then others...but besides that...no its not hard to do. and tyler im positive vaya had a page in the chronicle last year or the year b4. it doesnt take along time to do, but the thing is not many ppl do it. grynd had one, and im sure it helped alot. and yea ur right ty, every genre has its own market...but face it...thunder bya is full of alot of older ppl and they like the rock altern stuff. you listen to anything on hot 105....and i like alot of stuff they play on there some i dont like, but that station appeals to alot of ppl in town and thats y i feel harbour press can apeal to thunder bay. and thats y chronicle did a page on them. im not 100% sure if family was in on the whole thing, but i asked andrew how he did it and he said that he jsut made up a great press kit and dropped it off anywhere he could. the rest i do not know bout...but one thing i do know...if u made a press kit of me...that would be one killer press kit....all ud have to do is throw a pic of me in my toronto maple leafs jersey and im set.

i dunno tyler, when i was in korova and vaya, both bands got in the chronicle and all we had to do was call and ask for an interview. it didnt hurt that it was around the times of cd release shows.
