hey i deffinatley know my punk rock. and i deffinatly under stood everything you said dr. distructo, but i disagree with it. it takes more than energy to be a punk band. you have to actually call yourself a punk band. i don't think slayer does. they obviously have punk influences, but that still doesn't make them a punk band.

I didn't say they were "a" punk band.  I said they were "the ultimate" punk band.  Haha.  I understand that most people would consider them to be metal, but I don't think that they can be summed up that way.  Actually, they are just Slayer.  Trying to define Slayer is a bit impossible.

well my personal input on Slayer being a punk band is that first of all skrewdriver should not be an influence to anyone and although i will admit the musics good just not the message (going for slayer and skrewdriver here dont hate me cause i find songs about hating blacks catchy) but you have to differenciate what punk rock (however you define it) has a sound to it and that sound is punk rock. The attitude is not a very big part of punk rock although it may seem it in some cases and the attitude is a fair factor i would still categorise slayer as a metal band for their metal sound they have. the simplification of it all is that music can be broken down into a few genres (classic rock Metal country jazz blues world punk ska/rocksteady/reggae folk hip hop etc i think i missed a few there but thats pretty much the basics) then subgenres and maybe metal and punk could go under as subgenres but i think they are really just their own kind of music. Now though i think you cant really categorise slayer as metal or thrash metal or whatever you wanna call it. i will admit it has punk influences. but so do metalica (and i realise ill probly be hated by many for this) fuck metalica

and slayer totally are influenced by minor threat and did a great cover of guilty of being white

now if that made any sence to anyone you may get a prize  cause im allready confused about what i just said

Rancid are original?
Rancid = a more slurring clash cover band

punk rock can be very technical my favourite example (if your like the cunts at HMV and dont call them punk i may be forced to kill you) suicidal tendancies they honestly have the most complicated solo's i have ever heard. who else rancid ARE a technical band not with the guitars really but i'd like to see any of you metal bassists play maxwell murder ( i know one person who can and thats george i know prog rock kids who might be able too though) The Ramones all played different instruments originally and chose to play simply JOEY RAMONE WAS A DRUMMER!!

As for the misfits cover nothing has been decided yet well sortof but i dont think were gonna show our set list and ruin the suprise months in advance

and one last thing about slayer in the words of atom and his package

oh how i would love for everybody in heavy metal to be homosexual if not atleast make the nazi fucking pricks in slayer a little more uncomfortable

dead kennedys next cover show ive decided (and slayer may have taken some ideas from the music but the lyrics are completely opposite) and im pretty sure i heard a recording of jello saying shit about slayer or something about there being a million bands who sound exactly like them.

Jeff from Slayer has said about wut sound they wanted that "we wanted to have the speed of punk with the agression of metal." So Slayer is metal but with punk roots. SLAYER!
