Fuck anyone and everyone who said that they would come to this and bailed.
and an extra special Fuck You to every single local band who took off after playing. You don't deserve to be playing shows in this town if you have the audacity and gall to do shit like that over and over again. Fuck you, fuck your friends who do the exact same thing, fuck your band. You might as well have spit in micros face, you pieces of shit.
Every out of town band kicked ass beyond ass. Posted on: August 19, 2010, 05:02:01 PM It's a sad day in local music when the only people in a moshpit are 19 members of out of town bands and 1 local guy.
This show kicked SO MUCH ASS, i don't understand how people can just shrug awesome nights like these off their shoulders.

ramsay. sometimes the things you say are just retarded. Yes it sucks this show didn't do well. But for this show it's a tad different there sir, if a band plays @ 5:30 and takes off @ 8:30 they are dicks? why because they didn't have another 4 hours in them? shut the fuck up man. I saw Morbid Atrophy kicking it long before you got there, and was there till i left near the end. So don't call people out and act like it's their fault. These are the people that came out and played brah. Things happen especially with younger bands they don't drive, need parents help, blah blah blah like there is a whole load of factors that weigh against young bands. And with the amount of shows that happen weekly in this town $15 can be a lot for people, now had this show been conveniently located on the weekend, it would have been different.
not every show can do good, and when shows like this happen, it needs a bigger buzz, because it's suppose to be a bigger show, the same tactics, and posters here and there don't work.
i will say this though every god damn person in every single out of town band was the nicest shit ever! solid solid people, with how shitty the show was, had only nice things to say. Unlike those rockstar bitches in doom cannon and liferuiner, who showed up to play a show, then instead of doing that scooped up a load of sand up in there vaginas went around back and just chilled in the parking lot the whole night, bitches.

totally agree there bro. I was there till the end of the show. it was early when we went on but we stuck it long as we could and it was an awsome show and for all the people that didnt come. well the just missed alot of awsome local and out of town talent. people cant be so harsh on local bands. we are doing the best we can to support the scene too. Rock On! Ryan and morbid atrophy

I had to work until 9:30 so I didn't get there until almost 10, had to load up the gear and play the show. Brad had the only vehicle that could move all of our gear and with him working at 7:30, it wasn't possible for him to wait around to see Omega Crom and then unload the gear. Got to see Twins, play my set, and watch the last half of Crom's set so sometimes there's only so much one can do in terms of sticking around.

I share Ramsay's frustration, but I understand that people have shit to do and whatever. But it's still disheartening. Everyone has an excuse too. It all depends where you come from I suppose.
I'll testify to Dave here. The guy lives metal. He wakes up to grindcore most days. He would rather be watching even a decent band play than doing anything else. He knows every local bands lyrics at least as well as the singer of said band does. He attends more metal shows than anyone but Micro.
I largely agree with him. This summer every show I played/watched I saw the first and last band. So when people from different mentalities get involved, it really throws us for a loop. I'll speak more for myself here.
I think I've touched on this before. I want to watch the bands play rock and roll. Really effin badly. I don't care about stupidpeoplethings like sleep and not feeling horrible. Live music is the greatest thing imaginable. Even bands that kinda suck or are out of my taste range. So when bands play and leave right away, it leaves a horrible taste in my mouth. I know everyone has excuses, and NO ONE has EVER left early due to faggotry. But when I see a band leave like that, I can't help but consider the possibility "Maybe they don't like this as much as I do!". And it throws me for a loop. And frequently bands that leave early only last for about a year and a half, and the members stop playing shows after that band.
Another category is friends of bands. I know, espeically for new bands, it is hard to find an audience. Most often it's just your school chums. And I excuse these guys, who were dragged out as a personal favour. But lots of my friends, who only go to shows to see my band as a favour once in a while, have begun to get to know people and bands and enjoy themselves. And now they are big fans of Thunder Bay music and stay as long as I do.
So though Ramsay's post is way too harsh and way to childish and butthurt, it seems that at least at the margins, this sort of attitude is positive. Whether GG and co are in influence to this or not, the newer bands we play with (of the top of our heads, Morbid, Silence and Solitude, A New Machine) have members who DO stay frequently after they play or their friends play or whatever. And our own group of friends also tend to stay for multiple bands.
So I find it very hard weighing my disappointment of watching local and touring bands that kick ass play to Generals Gathered, Micro, and Terry; vs the understanding that some people aren't just testing the waters of Thunder Bay music to see if they like it, and/or always seem to have more important shit. This summer, Caulfield, Jucifer and Mares of Thrace played here. These are possibly the three heaviest bands I've ever heard (coincidentally all have a female member! and play some variation of doom metal). And to watch this heaviness play to a smaller crowd than it deserves can really irk someone. But the worst is, it's a self perpetuating cycle.
I can imagine someone leaving because they aren't having fun because the bar is too empty. Or someone not coming because the bar won't be full enough. To me it seems like a silly reason, but it probably does happen.
Well, this 630am rant is over.

I just want to throw it out there that Brette still doesn't have her amp, and at the very least Tim should have to buy her a new one.

Ramsay did say any band that took off right after the show.... that would be excluding the ones that did stay. so he is absolutely right in what he is saying. reading comprehension is a useful thing, unless of course he edited that in or something. but even if he did, that would mean he did not come across the way he wanted to at first... so it's not a big deal, at all
