after considering several key factors, including but not limited to, shows that are close to this one, state of the local scene (seeing a few bigger shows this month drawing flies), finnancial risk, the 'buzz', advance tickets sales or requests (0), we are sad to announce that we will not be proceeding with this show.

maybe a little promotion would have helped... At this point, I don't think posting on tbshows or facebook constitute promotion anymore. But hey, that's just me.

of course promotion has to happen, we just decided to pull the plug before investing several hundreds of dollars in promotion ... promotion costs money ... and adds alot of costs to the 'bigger' shows
And with two 'expensive' shows appealing to very similar audiences back to back, I think that this decision is the right one for everyone involved.

of course promotion has to happen Promotional costs? What kind of promotion, aside this thread have you done? I'm downtown single every day of the week and I've not seen a single poster or flyer anywhere for DOA. You haven't even uploaded the info to TBshows.com which is a WIDELY USED FREE SERVICE. I call your bluff.

Jimmy, I said we cancelled it before we spend alot money on promotion.
We needed about 200 people to break even, and with NMN the night after, and halloween the same week, there was a really high likelyhood that we would not have drawn that. We did have an advertising budget in place, but why spend it if it doesn't look like you're going to meet your costs? I mean I love DOA and I want to see them, but I m not in a position to pay one two or three thousand dollars out of pocket to see them.
We've seen shows draw 40 - 60 people that costs several thousands of dollars lately. And it's happening alot more often this year then usual. As you may have noticed another promoter made referance to that issue in another thread today.

vaaat? you don't need an ad during the superbowl or anything here True. But even a cheapish radio campaign of $300 - $500, and $100 of printing (posters cost almost $1 per -after taxes).. plus sound $100, plus lights, plus backline, plus the cost of the band, plus the rider costs (hotels $200 + ground transportation ($40) + meals ($100) + drinks ($100).. Plus alot of local openers want to get paid as well.. It all adds up... And with everything else going on that week, plus the fact that alot of shows (not just mine, but other promoters as well) have just really tanked in september.. we just can't take the gamble.

So tell Married Singlemen they can't play. Man, I hate that band, and they always seem to be on the shows that I want to see.
